The Importance Of Seeking Knowledge In Islam

Well, man does not show any carelessness in cultivating the lands, in irrigating and protecting his crops, in supplying fodder to his cattle and in other work of his profession simply because, if he did so, he will end up being starved to death and will lose his precious life. Then why would we show negligence in acquiring that knowledge on which depends our becoming Muslims and remaining Muslims? Does this not entail the danger of losing a precious thing like Iman {faith} ? Is not Iman dearer than Life? Out of the time and labour we spend on things which sustain our lives, can't we spend one-tenth of that on things which protect our Iman?

It does not mean that everyone of us should become a scholar, read voluminous books and spend ten to twelve years of your life in this pursuit. It is not necessary to read so much to become a Muslim. It least we should find time to understand the essence of the teachings of Quran and the purpose for which it was revealed. We should be able to understand clearly the mission of the Holy Prophet (SAW) with which he came into this world. What was the wrong the Holy Prophet wanted to be demolished and what was the right he wished to be established? We should also get acquainted with that particular mode of life which Allah has ordained for Muslims.
Brothers and sisters, not much time is required to acquire this quantum of knowledge. And if Iman is dear to us, it is not so difficult to find one hour per day to acquire it.
